Prawns (kolambi) poha

Prawns poha takes me down my memory lane! My mum used to make this every Sunday and we were three sisters would relish this one. This is one of the signature dishes of the CKP(Kayastha) community. Hope you like this one.

Prawns poha serves 4
For the masala
Prawns cleaned and deveined 150g
ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
tamarind paste 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

Mix the prawns with the rest of the ingredients and keep aside
For making pohe
onions finely chopped 1 no
Potatoes cubes 1/2 cup
rice flakes(poha) 2 cups soaked in water and drained
Whole garlic pods 3 nos
Oil for tempering 3 tbsp
Salt to taste

Method
1. Make the masala as given above
2. For making the pohe , heat oil in a skillet, add whole garlic pods crushed
3. Once it becomes dark brown add onions and potatoes and saute well till cooked.
4. Add the preapred masala and saute well. Cover and cook till the prawns are semi-cooked.
5. Add the soaked poha ,salt to taste and then cover and cook for about 3- 4 mins
6.Turn off the flame and then garnish with corainder leaves and fresh grated coconut.
7. Tastes best with a squeeze of lemon.
