Butter coffee

The traditional trend of dieting or food eating is shifting now a day. Thanks to different researches coming up every now and then. So initially, the trend was to eat something as soon as you wake up to boost your metabolism to its maximum. It is indeed true but now people are having fat or rather healthy fat as the first thing after waking up. And this fat is consumed in the form of butter coffee or bulletproof/bullet coffee.

Research has proved that in place of having a carbohydrate rich meal first thing in the morning its more sensible to have a meal rich in fats especially the good fats. When fat is consumed as the first thing in the morning it fills up the stomach and keeps us fuller for a longer period of time. A fat first in the morning will also help to keep the insulin in check so that it does not spike so that the body can be on the fat burning mode rather than fat storage mode.

Being a nutritionist, I am constantly in keep with latest trends and rather than just prescribing, I first try it out and evaluate. Then only I suggest the things to my clients. I was curious about butter coffee when it was just making the news. So I tried, not only I liked it but also I could see significant changes in myself.

So what is butter coffee?

It is a black coffee infused with some fat. Generally, butter is used so it is named as butter coffee. But you can use other healthy fats like coconut oil or ghee. The reason for using coffee is merely to add the extra zing due to caffeine content. In case you do not wish to use coffee you can simply have the coconut oil in warm water serves the same purpose.

I use cold pressed coconut oil from AAU naturals. Unlike other two fats, coconut oil has got MCTs (medium chain triglycerides). These are metabolized differently in the body than other fats. They go directly to the liver and digested there quickly. Unlike other fats, MCTs are used up quickly and provide energy rather than getting stored.

MCTs also reduce bad cholesterol from the body and risk of heart diseases. There are good for liver, skin and hair. They also reduce inflammation in arthritis.

So, I use it in my coffee. You can use butter or ghee if you don’t like the taste of coconut oil.

Here is the recipe of butter coffee-
