- Consume roasted or steamed foods instead of deep fried foods
- Indulge more in almonds and walnuts, pumpkin seeds and avoid dry fruits like cashews
- Consume more of low calorie fruits like apple, pears guava watermelon muskmelon instead of banana or pineapple
- A lot of foods during fasting have a great nutritive value like kattu (buckwheat), varagu, makahana, amaranth.
- Do not forget to drink lots of water during the fasts.
- Substitute sugar with jaggery or dates.
- Consume low fat skimmed milk instead of high fat one
- Avoid sugar craving by consuming fruits or a few khajur or can have banana milkshake.
- Make use of sweet potatoes over potatoes are they are low on the glycemic load.
